What to expect in children’s fashion fall/winter 2011
It can be difficult to keep up with all the latest in children’s fashion, because like our kids it’s forever changing. Overall there has been a revival of the 1980′s rocker style, more sustainable clothing options, more emphasis on organic cotton, hemp and even bamboo. For girls dresses are making a huge comeback, and in multiple styles. With the fall season upon us already, and winter straight ahead, here are some ideas to keep your child in style.
For girls look for muted colors this fall, and think more classic pieces. Colors like cream, muted blue, grey, black will be huge this year. For patterns, polka dots and stripes are making a bit of a revival and when coupled with coordinating solids they really pop out. Dresses of all styles will also make a wonderful addition to any girl’s wardrobe. Think patterns, or a mix of patterns for a rocker girl look, or simple dresses made of cotton for a more carefree feel, and for cooler weather you can pair a dress with a shrug or fitted sweater. Fabrics should be durable but comfortable, and fit well. To keep her warm think wool sweaters and classic peacoats.
For boys it’s all about a crossover between classic prep and 1980′s rocker styles. Colors like denim and khaki, with plaid prints on tops. Skinny jeans and cargo jeans are big for boys this year, which is a shout out to the 80′s, and mixed with the classic and preppy feel of plaid, or striped button up tops or a well fitted polo shirt. High top sneakers are also making a bit of a comeback, but with more of a boot meets a sneaker feel. For warmth, and fashion, think lined hooded sweatshirts and wool peacoats.
Boys, as always, have it far easier in the world of fashion this year. They seem to be more on the same page this year but girl’s fashion has more play room for personalizing style. Both have a big emphasis on fitted, though not skin tight, clothing. It appears to be all about the silhouette this year and making sure that garments properly fit.
